Greater Cleveland Food Bank

Hunger Action Month

Hunger Action Month, recognized by Feeding America and food banks across the country every September, is a month-long campaign to raise awareness of hunger in our country and promote ways for individuals everywhere to get involved with the effort to fight it.

This year, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank invites you to take action and join our 2020 Hunger Action Month challenge! Throughout the month, we’ll be promoting each of the featured actions below that you can take to help fight hunger right here in Northeast Ohio. For every action you complete, you’ll be entered into a drawing to win a weekly prize.

Now more than ever our neighbors are struggling to make ends meet – 1 in 5 Northeast Ohioans are food insecure – and we all have a role to play in feeding our community. Together, we can help end hunger – one helping at a time.

Take our Tough Choices Quiz and put yourself in the shoes of a low-income family. Can you make the kinds of tough choices our neighbors face every month and stretch your budget enough to make ends meet?

Send an encouraging card to a child in our Backpack for Kids program. It’ll put a smile on their face to receive it along with their backpack full of nutritious weekend meals!

Sign up to take a virtual tour of the Food Bank – join us on Zoom or watch our new tour video. Tours are a great way to learn more about the scope of our operations, and see how your generosity is put into action!

Start a virtual food drive for a fun, interactive way to raise funds to feed our neighbors! Spending $1 on a can of food can secure one small meal, but the Food Bank can stretch each dollar donated to help provide $10 of food, including perishable product such as fresh produce, low-fat dairy, and lean protein.

Pledge to vote on November 3rd and make sure you are registered to vote in Ohio by the October 5th deadline! Hunger-relief programs like SNAP, The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), and Child Nutrition Reauthorization (CNR) are critical to the people we serve, and so are elected officials who support them.
