Julia cherishes the time she spends with her daughters, Evelyn and Charlotte, at the Cleveland Metroparks Lunch and Learn. Their visits to the program have become a cherished summer routine, blending education with nourishment.
“My daughters love coming to the Lunch and Learn,” Julia shares. “They love learning about nature, and it’s nice that we could get lunch for them, too.” This unique program not only provides nutritious meals but also offers engaging educational activities, making it a hit with families like Julia’s.
When we met the family, Evelyn, Julia’s older daughter, was excited to start kindergarten soon. “I’m eating a carrot!” Evelyn exclaims, showcasing her enthusiasm for the healthy snacks provided. The program helps bridge the gap left by school-provided meals, ensuring that children continue to receive balanced nutrition during the summer months.
The rising cost of groceries has made the program even more valuable to Julia’s family. Programs like these provide a crucial buffer against financial strain, allowing families to focus on other essential needs.
Julia expressed her deep appreciation for the Greater Cleveland Food Bank’s efforts. “As a family with a fixed income, it really helps our family, even just one day of the week. I’m truly appreciative of it. I try to feed my kids as healthy as I can, but at least I know that the meal they get here is very healthy for them. This program really does help my kids,” she says.
Julia’s story is a testament to the positive impact of community programs that provide both nourishment and education. Her gratitude and enthusiasm underscore the importance of such initiatives in supporting families, especially those navigating the challenges of high cost of living and limited incomes.
When you donate to Harvest for Hunger, you’re ensuring families like Julia’s can enjoy nutritious meals and enriching experiences, fostering a brighter future for their children. Thank you!
