Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Virtual Food Drive?
The Virtual Food Drive is a unique online tool designed to allow individuals, companies and organizations to create their own custom donation page to raise needed funds on behalf of the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.
Money or Food? What has the bigger impact?
The Greater Cleveland Food Bank (GCFB) does not discourage food donations. After all, food is needed to eliminate hunger. Monetary donations, however, can yield a greater amount of food in the long run. The GCFB receives substantial amounts of donated food from manufacturers and the community, leverages its buying power to buy in bulk to save money, and purchases food at reduced prices allowing every $1 donated to provide up to four nutritious meals.
Who benefits from Virtual Food Drive donations?
All funds raised through the Greater Cleveland Food Bank (GCFB)’s Virtual Food Drives help the 1 in 6 Northeast Ohioans that are food insecure, which means they may not know at any given time where their next meal is coming from. The GCFB is the largest hunger relief organization in Northeast Ohio having provided nearly 39 million meals in 2013 to hungry people in Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Ashland and Richland counties. Our mission is to ensure that everyone in our communities has the nutritious food they need every day.
How long should a drive last?
The answer to this question depends on the amount of people you are trying to reach as well as the goal you have set for yourself or your organization. Generally, a drive lasts 1-2 weeks, but if your organization or target audience is large, you may need additional time to make sure all your potential donors are aware of the drive. Through the organizer’s page, you can adjust your drive dates, as well as the goal, whenever you like, as often as you’d like.
Who controls the content on the Virtual Food Drive page?
The individual who creates and organizes the Virtual Food Drive has the ability to post content and images on their personal web page. The Greater Cleveland Food Bank (GCFB) reserves the right to remove any objectionable content posted to a Virtual Food Drive. GCFB also reserves the right to contact the creator or disable any Virtual Food Drive at any time.
If you viewed objectionable or inappropriate content on a GCFB Virtual Food Drive page or if you have any additional questions, please contact us.
Is there a fee to start a Virtual Food Drive?
There is no fee to start a Virtual Food Drive. However, during the registration you will be able to make a gift that will count towards your Virtual Food Drive fundraising goal.
