How can you help?
We are relying on increased fundraising efforts and financial resources in order to meet the growing emergency needs of our community and protect those individuals and families most vulnerable to food insecurity. You can help raise these critical dollars by:

Thanks to the Ohio National Guard’s additional help at the Food Bank, we are limiting our volunteer hours, so please be sure to check our website for open volunteer shifts prior to arriving.

Food donations are needed and helpful during this time. Please consider donating one of our Top 10 Most Needed Items - these are non-perishable, shelf stable items. You can download the list here.
Advocating to the State and Federal government for additional SNAP benefits and other resources for people who miss hours at work, families whose children miss school, and flexibility on how we distribute government food to improve safety for all concerned. We are contacting our elected officials and asking them to support the emergency spending bill (H.R. 6201) to help with the COVID-19 pandemic.
This emergency spending bill includes language to provide emergency nutrition assistance to those in need. Also included is additional funding for the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), which will help food banks provide food to low-income Americans during the crisis, with some extra funds designed for storage and distribution of this food.

We encourage all Food Bank employees, volunteers, and other visitors who are experiencing any symptoms of illness to stay home. We are also reminding all that enter our facility to wash their hands regularly and practice good hygiene. Additionally, please continue to follow the guidance of public health officials:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands
- Stay home when you are sick
- Avoid contact with people who are sick
- Clean high-touch areas - counters, tables, doorknobs, light switches, bathroom fixtures, toilets, phones, keyboards, tablets, nightstands - every day using household cleaning spray or wipes according to label directions
Are you still collecting masks?
Yes! We are collecting reusable and washable masks. These masks are being distributed to partner agencies, clients, volunteers, and staff. Are there income requirements for the Farmers to Families program?
The USDA Truck to Trunk program does not require income verification like other programs that we administer. While this program is aimed at helping to provide emergency food assistance during the pandemic, it’s primary focus is providing financial support to the produce, dairy and meat industries and avoiding unnecessary food waste during this time of tremendous need. While the Food Bank is helping to distribute these food boxes, we are not paying for them, so donated funds are not supporting this program.
How is the Food Bank keeping staff and volunteers safe?
The Greater Cleveland Food Bank has implemented several health and safety guidelines – first and foremost, masks for everyone in our facility! In addition, we’ve implemented temperature taking as you enter our facility, practicing social distancing, installing hand sanitizer stations around the building, and encouraging regular hand washing for everyone in our facility. Who are some of your partner agencies?
The Greater Cleveland Food Bank partners with over 1,000 partner agencies in our six-county service area, many of which have remained open during the COVID-19 pandemic. To view a complete list of agencies that are open in your area, please visit www.GreaterClevelandFoodBank.org/Map.
How long will the National Guard be helping you?
The Ohio National Guard has been at the Food Bank since March 23rd, 2020 and will remain with us through the fall of 2021. We’ve been very fortunate to have them here helping us – thank you, Ohio National Guard!
Are you getting help from the state of Ohio/Governor DeWine/the federal government?
Even before the pandemic began, the Food Bank partnered closely with local, state, and federal governments to provide food to our community. When the pandemic hit, Governor DeWine responded quickly by deploying the Ohio National Guard to Ohio’s food banks and also providing $5 million to purchase additional food and resources. Our federal officials also quickly responded by providing additional dollars to The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), which went to purchase nutritious, American-grown food for food banks across the country. Our partners at the state and federal levels also worked to reduce the red tape surrounding our programs, so we could operate our programs as safely as possible during the pandemic and serve more families, children, and seniors in a safe manner. At the local level, we were very grateful to receive assistance in the form of a grant from Cuyahoga County, which will help us continue our COVID-19 response efforts. We have also received support from the City of Cleveland to operate our weekly drive-thru food distributions.
How has COVID-19 affected food resources for the Food Bank?
Overall, food donations from local retailers and manufacturers have been down. We have had to purchase more product to ensure we have enough food to distribute. This is where monetary donations are so important. For every $1 donated, the Food Bank can help provide $10 worth of food.
