Food & Funds Drive: Frequently Asked Questions

How to donate

You can collect money, non-perishable food and other needed non-food items at your workplace, school or community group by hosting a food and funds drive. Please call 216-738-2140 or complete the food and fund drive registration form to set-up a food drive. A staff member will contact you within 24 hours to learn about your drive and answer any questions you may have.

What to donate

Monetary donations provided the greater impact because of how far the Greater Cleveland Food Bank can stretch donations to provide nutritious meals but food donations are also welcome. If you donate product please consider the food and non-food items that are most in demand by our partner agencies.

The six most needed food items are:

  • beef stew
  • canned soup
  • canned vegetables
  • canned tuna
  • peanut butter
  • cereal

The seven most requested non-food items by our partner agencies are:

  • deodorant
  • laundry detergent
  • shampoo
  • toilet paper
  • soap
  • toothbrushes 
  • toothpaste

Where do I drop off the food that I collect?

We consider transport of the food to the Food Bank to be part of your donation. Please bring items to:

An appointment is not needed to drop off food. We are able to accept food donations Monday - Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Please pull around to the back of our building and up to the first dock door on the right marked “All Donations.” Ring the bell outside the door and a member of our warehouse staff will be out to assist you. Our team will unload and weigh the items in order to provide you with a receipt for the donation.

Please be prepared to provide our staff with the organization and contact information for your drive and/or food donation. 

Note: For the safety of the clients we serve, the Food Bank can only accept food donations that are non-perishable and directly received by a staff member.  Any items left outside our building will be disposed of. All donated items should be unopened and unexpired.

What do I do with the money that I collect?

By mail – please submit all monetary donations in the form a check or money order made payable to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank:

Online – donations can be made online via a secure online donation form or by setting up a Virtual Food Drive to collect donations from friends and family.

In person – if you also collected food items, please alert a staff member during your food drop-off that you also are making a monetary donation. They will contact our Accounting or Development department to accept your donation.
